We had dinner at "The Strip Club" last night in St. Paul and if you love great food, you'll enjoy this place as much as I did. This hidden gem for foodies is right next to Metro State University. You can park either on the street or in the Metro State parking lot. The building stands out quite a bit from the rough exterior of the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood. It's like an old fashioned corner store with it's large glass windows and elegant interior decor. We were welcomed by all of the servers and immediately seated. They have an extensive wine, beer, and libation list to pair with a simple but, well crafted menu. They have an abundance of small plates and a nice selection of meats. I had the Thunderbird while deciding on what to eat. We were so hungry after trying not to spoil our appetites all day. We started off with small plates of the Meat on a Stick, the Pig's Eye Poutine, Calamari, and Fried Oysters. The meat on a stick was simple but, so tender and juicy. The Pig's Eye Poutine was french fries, with truffle gravy and cheese curds. The top half of the fries were nice with a little gravy and a cheese curd. Once you got to the bottom, the remaining fries were soaked with gravy. The Calamari was not your typical deep friend variety. It was almost like a Tom Yum Soup Calamari. It was something different and interesting. The deep fried Oysters were amazing. Julie doesn't usually like oysters but, she enjoyed these oysters. It was crisp on the outside and the meat was still juicy and tender on the inside. The sauce was a nice touch with a little kick. I could hardly wait for dinner after having these wonderful starters. I decided on the creme de la creme, the New York Strip with the "Ooo la Foie" sauce with foie gras, shallots, port wine. Poached carrots and a grilled lemon also accompany the steak on the side. I paired it with a wonderful Surly Coffee Bender. The steak was mouth watering delicious. The sauce was immaculate. The port wine added a touch of sweetness and the foie gras added a nice buttery and fatty flavor. Yes, fat equals flavor. The carrots had a nice balance of that soft yet firm texture. We finished with one of the most wonderful deserts I've had in a while. I was so food intoxicated that I could not remember the name and forgot to take a picture of it. It was a layered chocolate desert with chocolate gnash and a small scoop of ice cream to top it off. It was so delightful that we ordered another. I finished off with a nice Surly Furious while we talked through our food comas. If you enjoy good drinks, a nice atmosphere, and satisfying food, you won't be disappointed by "The Strip Club". I highly recommend it. It's definitely one of the top 5 restaurants in St. Paul right now. I'm sure I'll be heading back sometime soon...
