I have been thinking about getting a new digital camera lately. It's not something necessary since I have a camera and a video recorder in my phone but, I am always wanting more. The pictures and video in my blog are nice but, I want something better. I want some thing that will take better pictures when the lighting is anything less than ideal and I want something that will shoot HD video(720P video). At first, I was looking at the Flip UltraHD mini video recorder. It had the video recording capability that I wanted and it was just the right size so I can fit another gadget in my pocket. The recording quality was very good in my eyes after watching a few amatuer videos shot with the camera. Just when I thought that I might go with this camera, I started thinking about the picture taking qualities of my phone as well.

Then I started searching for digital cameras with HD video capabilites. I don't want to lug around a giant digital SLR, so I want something in a point and shoot form factor. I found two cameras that I am currently debating about getting.
I am thinking about the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290 or the Canon PowerShot SD780 IS. They both shoot 720P video and have 12.1 megapixel resolutions.

The Sony has a 3 inch LCD display on the back but, lacks an inbox HDMI cable to connect to an HDTV. The Sony is also a tad bit cheaper than the Canon as well.

All of my film and digital cameras have all been Canon so, I do feel a bit of brand loyalty. All of my Canon cameras have never had any issues at all and they have been pretty loyal to me as well. I once had a camera that almost bounced into the ocean but, somehow willed itself to stay on a rock after being dropped in Monterrey Bay. The Canon only has a 2.5 inch display on the back and is just a bit more expensive. I guess it may be a coin toss but, I suck at coin tosses. I'll just have to go into the store and check them out...
